How can I make an effective banner?
An ideal banner has two qualities: it promotes an online image of your brand, and it brings right visitors
to your site. The following recommendations will help you design your banner to achieve the above goals.
Any user is more likely to pay attention to a banner that has quality graphics as opposed to a text
advertising. Graphics are great, as long as they relate to your site, and don't take too much time to load.
Most importantly, try to avoid irrelevant graphics since they destroy your online image.
Animated images tend to have a significantly higher response than static ones. On the flip side,
they load slower. Try to balance out animations with load time. An animated image should not
take more than 15 KBytes.
Your banner should have a mysterious aura about it.
If you can get a user to wonder about where will this banner take him, you will surely increase
your click-through ratio.
Try to use a combination of bright and pleasant colors that also look good with each other. Don't use
more than 3 dominant colors. Take a look at these combinations:
Adding "Click Here" to your banner can also increase its click-through ratio. But this phrase
should be more of a sidenote and not the focal point of the banner.
Look at banners that are used by popular sites in their advertising campaigns and try to analyze them. These sites pay a lot of money
to top designers and marketers, who know exactly what they are doing.
Come up with different variations of your banner and see which one (or maybe even more than one) works best for you.
Experiment over a sufficient span of time, so that your results would more accurate.
